Arsenal FC In Third Place – Arsenal Tickets

Robin Van Persie, Arsenal FC

Arsenal In Premier League Third Place

Arsenal moved closer to Champions League qualification and Arsène Wenger as Arsenal remain in third place in the England Premier League table. Arsenal is hoping to finish in third place, which would guarantee continued qualification in the Champions League next season.

Although Robin Van Persie is the top goal scorer in the Premiership, Arsenal club manager, Arsene Wenger wants to sign an additional new striker for next season.

Van Persie, newly named Footballer of the Year, scored his 35th goal of the season.

Theo Walcott, out injured, is the club’s second highest scorer in the Premiership with eight in 34 appearances.

“I think Van Persie has to push us over the line with two games to go. We have been over-relying on him for goals. It’s something we have to address at the end of the season.”

“I don’t see what he has done wrong to deserve that, but abuse exists in stadiums everywhere and I cannot stop it. It’s easy to sit in the stands and insult people. This is one of the places where you face a big amount of hate. Yes, they boo our passing, but it’s their way of taking the micky out of us. I’ve said many times that there’s not just one approach to playing the game. Stoke do what they do very well and I respect that. Don’t forget they did well in Europe this season.”

Arsenal Has High Hopes For Champions League Placement

Arsene Wenger, Arsenal FC Manager

Arsenal Battle For Champions League Placement in 2012-13

The battle for Champions League placement for next season is getting interesting.

Man Utd and Man City have secured the top two spots. Arsenal intend to secure third place to secure automatic qualification.

Arsenal are currently in third place in the Premiership table. Finishing in third or fourth place would normally secure a place in next season’s Champion League placement.

“If we finish third, you want Chelsea to win the Champions League because it’s great for the Premier League that an English club wins,” said Arsene Wenger, Arsenal boss.

“If you are in the fourth position it would be masochistic to wish that you were out of the Champions League. You cannot ask the impossible. That is why maybe the rule is a little bit malicious. I think everyone in England wants an English team to win the Champions League but the team who is fourth will certainly wish they had a chance to play in the Champions League. But let’s not forget that the team that is fourth can be Chelsea. You don’t know yet.”

However if Chelsea FC win the Champions League title this season and finish in fifth place or lower, they would bump the club who finishes in fourth. If Chelsea loose the Champions League Final against hosts Bayern Munich in May and fail to finish in the top four, then they would usurp one of their rivals (Newcastle United, Arsenal, or Tottenham Hotspur) to enter the group stages.

Arsene Wenger feels the rule is ‘not completely fair’, he also believes it would be ‘illogical’ for the holders not to be able to defend the title.

‘It is the rule that everybody knows before the season starts, nobody complained and if Chelsea win then England will have four clubs represented in the Champions League. We have to accept it,’ Wenger said.

‘But the surprise of the season is neither Chelsea, who are not even in the Champions League places at the moment which is very unusual, nor Bayern, are top of their leagues. That shows you how unpredictable the Champions League is.’

Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov has spoken again of a desire to increase his stake in Arsenal’s parent company up from 30%, perhaps to have a seat on the board. Arsenal’s majority shareholder is Stan Kroenke, who completed a takeover last year.

‘I always think it is important in a big club that everybody does his job. I have zero shares so I cannot sell him anything. For the rest I don’t want to be involved in that,’ said Wenger.

‘That is a decision which has to be made by the board, who is represented there.

‘Why not? As long as we have the freedom to decide on the sporting side, I have not to decide what is going on with the board.’

Wenger shared some thought on how he feels about being booed and jeered on the pitch.

“I’ve had enough experience to cope with that. It doesn’t bother me too much. I don’t listen to what people chant,” said Wenger.

“I think one day football will have to tackle that. It’s easy to sit in the stand and insult people. It’s the easiest sport in the world.

“I focus on what I love in my job, which is football and the way my players behave on the pitch. I’m not responsible for the way people behave in the stands.

“If you want to stop that, it’s easy to stop. You can isolate every single face.

“I think sometimes when I go out on the pitch at the end of the game, and people are angry or hateful, I would like a little picture to send home for them to show their son or daughter, and then come back next week and see if they will do it again, see if they are proud of you.”

Arsenal Update – Robin Van Persie Named Footballer of the Year

Robin Van Persie, Arsenal FC
.
Robin Van Persie Named Footballer of the Year 2011-12
.
Robin Van Persie, 28, has scored 34 goals so far this season and is the Premier League’s top scorer this season with 27 goals.
Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has been named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year..
The Gunners’ captain was also awarded the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year prize.
The Netherlands forward won the award in the voting ahead of Manchester United pair Wayne Rooney, in second place, and Paul Scholes in third. Fulham’s Clint Dempsey finished fourth.
Van Persie was signed by Arsenal FC manager Arsene Wenger in 2004 and was used mainly as a second striker after Cesc Fabregas.
“I never really thought that I would end up as a main striker,” recalled the Dutchman. “I actually never played there before – I did it a couple of times at youth level, but it was nothing really special.
“The boss didn’t buy someone else because he was convinced I could do it. I wasn’t so sure.
“Sometimes, you just question yourself, if you are good enough at it. Those answers came,” said Van Persie.
“I have been convinced for a while now that I actually can play as a main striker. I just didn’t know, and now I believe.”
“It goes beyond my level of expectation with the number of goals he has scored. He is sensational as well is as a captain. He has done extremely well on and off the field,” said Wenger.
“Robin has a very healthy life, very focused on football – he takes care of everything. That’s why he manages to do that. He is like Thierry Henry in that respect.
“You have national class, international class and world class, and Robin is world class.”
It is the second time in three years that the winner of the PFA award has gone on to win the FWA prize, after Wayne Rooney achieved the feat in 2010.
FWA chairman Steve Bates, chief football writer at the People, said: “Robin was the overwhelming choice of our members this season and deservedly so after a magnificent campaign for Arsenal.
“The quality of his goals, attacking movement and consistency in a turbulent season for the Gunners has been eye-catching.
“The considerable size of his majority in the votes cast by our members reflected the general view that he has been the season’s most outstanding individual performer.”

Arsenal 1-0 Manchester City! – Arsenal Football Tickets

Arsenal 1-0 Manchester City

Mikel Arteta wonder goal wins it for 3rd place Arsenal in their clash against 2nd place Manchester City.

Wolves 0-3 Arsenal

Early goals from Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott earned Arsenal a much-needed win over Wolves today putting them in third place in the England Premier League. Arsenal lost in their previous game at QPR and their six-match winning streak came to a halt.

Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger is cautious when asked about plans to capture a Champions League automatic spot for next season.

“The only target we know we can do is if we get our resources together for the next game. That is the only way to do it.

“You don’t know what the others will do, so let’s just win our games.”

“For some people these predictions are their job.

“Believe me, they don’t know much better than you or me and the result of every game is just a consequence of your performance on the day.

“Nobody can really predict that because your performance on the day depends on you, but also depends on the other team as well. To predict both is nearly impossible.

“You can have an idea but football has surprised us so many times, especially recently in the last two or three months.”

“Let’s not anticipate, that is something else that is important.

“When it gets to the last sprint, focus on the next game becomes the most important part because you are always tempted to anticipate.”

Wenger and van Persie Key to Arsenal Comeback

Robin Van Persie, Arsenal FC

Wenger and van Persie Key to Arsenal 2012 Success!

Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger and superstar striker Robin Van Persie have been key in The Gunner’s rise up to the top tier of the Premiership this season. Wenger has aspirations to finish in the top four in the Premier League this campaign.

Robin Van Persie has not yet agreed to a contract extension at Arsenal. His current contract runs out in the summer of 2013.

City’s boss, Roberto Mancini has hailed Van Perise as ‘one of the best strikers in Europe’.

Arsenal FC boss, Arsene Wenger is not concerned about Manchester City’s public declaration that they intend to bring Van Persie on board.

‘If you are to have one quality it is not to be unsettled because what is said of you by other clubs is part of the job,’ said Wenger.

‘What is important is how much you want to win the next game and all the rest is basically not important.’

‘Robin is the leader of our club and I would just like to specify that he is not at the end of his contract.

‘He is under contract until 2013. So you do your job, focus on your job which he does very well and enjoy your games.’

Wenger has hope for England midfielder Jack Wilshere, who has been out all season due to an ankle problem.

‘The progress in training is very good but what you do not want is to have any setbacks,’ Wenger said.

‘The setback could be a bad scan, but the clinical signs are all very good when you look at his ankle, it is not inflamed and it is normal progress now.

‘But we are a bit over cautious with him now because of the setbacks we had before.’

Wenger was charged with improper conduct by UEFA after confronting referee Damir Skomina following Arsenal’s 3-0 win over AC Milan.

Arsenal recently defeated Tottenham and at Liverpool.

‘We want to finish as high as we can,’ Wenger said.

‘It will be difficult because we know that we face a massive battle there with Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle and maybe Liverpool.

‘We have created the momentum but we know until the end of the season that every game will be a massive one for us.

‘What is at stake is to be in the top four, if possible in the top three, but it will be difficult for everybody.’
