Arsenal Buckled Under Pressure

Although Arsenal has fought hard all season to stay in the second position on the top of the Premier League, Javier Hernandez said Arsenal buckled under the pressure of chasing a treble.

Arsenal played in a Carling Cup final, the FA Cup fifth round, the UEFA Champions League second round and also provided the biggest threat to Manchester United’s title charge as they clashed at the top.

A cup final defeat to Birmingham was followed by Champions League and FA Cup exits to Barcelona and United.

The Gunners have fallen to third place in the Premiership behind Chelsea – and now trail Man United by nine points.

“I believed Arsenal would be our main opponents – they have excellent players,” said Hernandez.

“Perhaps the pressure damaged them, those defeats against Barcelona and Birmingham in the Carling Cup final.

“But United is a team that never knows when it is defeated. Our spirit and history creates fear in our rivals.

“If we are 2-0 down with 20 minutes to go, people know we can come back. That doesn’t happen at other clubs.”

Arsenal host champions-elect United on Sunday, requiring a win to keep their faint title hopes alive.

“They will be difficult to beat so once again we must put in a big effort,” said Hernandez about Arsenal.

“We also have to play Chelsea. I know they will fight until the last minute to protect their title but the outcome is in our hands.

“If we win these matches we win the Premier League.”

Cesc Fabregas Telling It Like It Is @ Arsenal

Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas has risked the wrath of Arsenal management and boss Arsene Wenger with a tough assessment of Arsenal’s six-year trophy drought.

Fabregas questions his manager’s intentions and called on the club’s new owners to choose between nurturing talent or winning silverware.

Fabregas insists he will never leave for another English team, but left the door open for a return to his native Barcelona if Arsenal fail to convince him they are going in the right direction.

Fabregas said: ‘If you went to Spain and said to Pep Guardiola (the Barca manager), Jose Mourinho (Real Madrid) or Unai Emery (Valencia) they would have three years without a trophy, it would be obvious they would not continue.

‘But here it is different, the manager is intelligent and the club value different things: that the team is always in the Champions League, that we compete until the end, that we have young players, economic stability.

‘But I imagine there will be a moment when you have to decide: do you win things or not?’

Fabregas joined Arsenal in 2003 – just as Wenger’s ‘Invincibles’ were embarking on an unbeaten Barclays Premier League campaign. He won the FA Cup in 2005 and reached the Champions League final a year later but the 2-1 defeat by Barcelona in Paris was the first of many disappointments.

Arsenal Update – Results & Upcoming Matches

Cesc Fabregas and Lionel Messi

Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has no plans to sell club captain Fabregas, 23. Although he may sell some of his side this summer after what looks to be a sixth straight trophyless season.

Arsenal are planning to embark on a preseason tour of Asia for the first time after years of resisting the incentives to go on a major foreign expedition.

Arsene Wenger has always been opposed to overseas travel, but has said that if the club was to go travelling, it would have to be for other reasons than money.

Arsenal will announce the details of their tour to both China and Malasia.

Arsenal will have a venue to expand their global reach, following in the footsteps of major brands like Chelsea and Manchester United.
