Barca Want Fabregas to Go On Strike @ Arsenal

Cesc Fabregas may be set for more heartbreak this summer as it can be revealed that Barcelona are unwilling to pay the £35 million valuation set by Arsenal for the Spanish midfielder. Fabregas has made it clear for the second successive summer that he wants to return home to the club where he began his career and is said to be doing all he can to negotiate a move.

Arsenal begin their season next week.

Reportedly the Spanish Arsenal midfielder star Cesc Fabregas wants any possible transfer deal with Barcelona tied up this week before he is due to meet up with his team-mates again for pre-season training.

Barcelona have told Cesc Fabregas to go on strike at Arsenal in an attempt to force a cut-price move to the Catalan club.

If Fabregas does decide to strike and a move is not completed, he faces being alienated by his teammates and fans who idolise him.

Arsene Wenger took on Fabregas as a 16-year-old.

Barca had a £27 million bid rturned down last week by Arsenal and are unlikely to meet the current asking price of £40 million.

If Fabregas goes on strike and refuses to turn up for training next week, it will put Arsenal under enormous pressure to sell their captain which could put Barcelona in an extremely strong position when discussing the price of the move.

Although sources close to the midfielder have stated that he is not prepared to force an exit away from London, it is clear that this is what he is expected to do.

Pep Guardiola is desperate to land Fabregas but is adamant they will not break the bank.

The Barcelona players are also attempting to push a move through for Fabregas and midfielder Sergio Busquets stated, ‘Every year it’s the same. This year he seems to be getting closer. I wish this year is the definitive one and we can have Cesc by our side’.

Arsenal Wins Emirates Cup Trophy

Emirates Cup 2011 – 30 Jul 2011 @ Emirates Stadium

Arsenal are the current holders of the Emirates Cup trophy – they won the tournament in 2007, 2009 and 2010 when they defeated Celtic at Emirates Stadium.

The 2011 Emirates Cup kicks off at 9:00AM ET on Saturday, July 30 with the Red Bulls facing Paris Saint-Germain followed by Arsenal taking on Boca Juniors at 11:20AM ET. On Sunday, July 31, Paris Saint-Germain faces Boca Juniors at 9:00AM ET, while Henry and the Red Bulls square off against Arsenal at 11:20AM ET.

The Emirates Cup is an annual two-day pre-season football tournament hosted by English Premier League club Arsenal and held at the Emirates Stadium, the club’s home ground. It is similar in style to the Amsterdam Tournament hosted by Ajax.

“We are honored with Arsenal’s invitation to participate in this year’s Emirates Cup,” said Erik Soler, the Red Bulls General Manager and Sporting Director. “Our club is looking forward to representing Major League Soccer in this high profile international tournament.”

Teams will be awarded three points for a win and one point for a draw. The competition also rewards attacking play, with teams being awarded one point for each goal they score. In addition, shots on target will be counted and will be used to decide the tournament winners if teams are level on points and goal difference. The winning team will be presented with the Emirates Cup trophy after the second match on July 31.

Arsenal Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis said, “We’re delighted and proud to once again be hosting the Emirates Cup this summer. Over the previous four years, the Emirates Cup has proved to be an overwhelming success and a thoroughly enjoyable weekend of football.

“Nearly half a million supporters have now come to Emirates Stadium to attend the Emirates Cup in the four years, and the tournament is now recognised around the world as a prestigious pre-season event.

“New York Red Bulls, Boca Juniors and Paris Saint-Germain are three clubs with great players and huge followings, and they are sure to make Emirates Cup 2011 a hugely exciting weekend of football. Also, I’m sure all Arsenal fans will be looking forward to welcoming back Thierry Henry – a true Arsenal legend.”

The Arsenal Way

Arsenal fans are watching to see what transfers will take place this summer.

Arsene Wenger’s reluctance to buy a proven player may be because he believes in the need to develop a player in the “Arsenal Way”.

At the end of the 2010-11 campaign, the media blamed Arsenal’s failure to win the Premier League Wenger’s lack of activity in the transfer market, needing more powerful goalkeepers, and his reliance on his youth policy.

Reportedly, Arsene’s record with big signings is very poor:

Reyes – cost £10.5m rising to £17m if he achieved certain targets. After winning a PL title, and FA Cup in his two seasons at AFC he was sold for £12m.

Wiltord – Club record signing in 2000 at £13m. Scored a goal every 3.5 games for Arsenal. Voted 33rd in the Best AFC Players of all time. 2 PL titles and 2 runners-up, 2 FAC winners and one losing finalist. Played 175 games and saw out his contract prior to leaving for Lyon.

Arshavin – 9 years after Wiltord, AW broke the record again, signing the Russian for £16m. By the end of his first season AA was voted the PL most effective player. He continues to contribute scoring 10 with 17 assists last season.

Wenger spent £100m+ for players who sit on the bench every week like SAF. Or loaned out players with a value of over £150m because they aren’t good enough for the squad, like Mancini.
