Wenger Eager to Sign Van Persie Again

Robin van Persie

Robin Van Persie scored his side’s third goal during the Barclays Premier League match between Arsenal and Stoke City at the Emirates Stadium on October 23, 2011 in London, England.

The Arsenal star footballer has just two years left on his contract with the Gunners.

Arsenal want to sign van Persie up with a new contract well before the deadline.

Van Persie had said recently that he has no plans to leave Arsenal, and does not want to discuss a new deal until the end of the current season.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club have already started negotiations with Robin van Persie over a new contract.

Manchester City, Real Madrid and Anzhi Makhachkala are all reportedly to court the Dutchman in the New Year.

“He has 18 months to go and I’m confident he’ll sign a new deal,” said Wenger.

“I’m always confident.”

Arsenal On The Rise …

Robin van Persie, Arsenal

Arsenal has risen to the 10 spot in the Premier League this week.

The Gunners are finally recovering from an early poor start after Sunday’s 2-1 win over Sunderland put them mid-table.

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie was the hero for the Gunners scoring both goals, last Sunday, against Sunderland.

Arsenal and Marseille both hope to win in their upcoming Group F clash when they meet in a Champions League match tomorrow.

Marseille leads Group F with six points, Arsenal has four points.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has picked an 18-player squad for tomorrow’s Champions League match against Olympique de Marseille.

Andrey Arshavin
Mikel Arteta
Yossi Benayoun
Marouane Chamakh
Francis Coquelin
Johan Djourou
Lukasz Fabianski
Gervinho
Carl Jenkinson
Laurent Koscielny
Per Mertesacker
Tomas Rosicky
Aaron Ramsey
Andre Santos
Alex Song
Wojciech Szczesny
Robin van Persie
Theo Walcott

Tomas Rosicky hopes for victory tomorrow.

“It must be our aim to win the group, especially after what happened to us last year when we were not top of the group,” Arsenal playmaker Tomas Rosicky said. “In the last three games we messed up.”

Marseille has won both of its Group F matches without conceding a goal.

“Marseille are a direct contender for us,” Rosicky said. “It’s a big game and we want to be successful there.”

Arsenal in 15th …

Arsene Wenger, Arsenal Manager

Arsene Wenger has been boss at Arsenal for 15 years.

The Gunners became one of the major title contenders after his arrival.

After loosing key players, Arsenal find themselves down the Premiership table in 15th place early this season.

Arsene Wenger believes he now has more leaders in his squad than last season.

Frenchman Wenger drafted Per Mertesacker, Mikel Arteta, Yossi Benayoun, Ju Young Park and Andre Santos in the final days of the transfer window.

‘Sometimes we are reproached for not having enough captains in our squad, now we have plenty,” said Wenger.

‘Overall, we have more experience and this could be important if we are in a strong position should we have interesting challenges in March or April. That could have a big part to play.

‘We got criticised a lot last season for not getting over the line, but I believe that we were so close, so, so close that it was unbelievable to accept. But we have added more experience.

‘Also, last year, we lost important players in March and April because we went for all the trophies, so hopefully we have the squad to do it and this time it will happen.

‘In every position, you always have number one, two and three, knowing there is a not a lot between them.

‘But basically I’m very happy with the signings we made and my challenge now is to prove that I made the right decisions.

‘I have great belief in the players I bought in and I am convinced they will prove me right.’

Jack Wilshere Has A New Son

Nineteen-year-old Jack Wislhere recently became a father.

Arsenal’s young midfielder, Wilshere, will have plenty to keep him busy during his five-month lay-off after the 19-year-old became a father on Thursday.

Wilshere’s girlfriend Lauren Neal, 22, gave birth to a boy, Archie Jack.

Arsenal midfielder, Jack Wilshere, has been out with an ankle injury all season. He will return to the field in February at the earliest.

Wishere has pledged his commitment to Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger.

To date, Arsenal have lost four of their seven Premier League fixtures.

The Gunners are down 12 points off the top of the Premier League table.

Fans and media blame Wenger for Arsenal’s fall this campaign.

Wilshere does not agree.

“We do get a harder time from the critics than most teams but we haven’t won anything for six years and that’s not good enough for Arsenal,” Wilshere said. “It is harsh, though, especially on the boss. He has been there for 15 years and been great for Arsenal. The criticism that Arsène gets is just a joke. We have started a bit slowly but we still feel we can finish in the top four.”

Arsenal’s slow start is probably due to the late summer departures of Cesc Fábregas and Samir Nasri.

Wilshere is under contract until June 2015 and does not intend to leave.

“No disrespect to Manchester City but Arsenal is the perfect home for me right now,” he said.

“Some players have got their price but, to be honest, that’s not the way I look at the game. All I think about is playing at the highest level and in the top competitions, so I can measure myself against the best in the world. I really am happy at Arsenal at the minute. Obviously I want to win things and I want to do it with Arsenal.”

Wenger says Wilshere will be fully fit for the European Championship finals next summer.

“Everyone says that the players always look dead for England in the summer but I should be fresh if I come back strongly and I get picked,” he said. “It feels a long way off for me at the moment, because I am walking around on crutches. It’ll drive me crazy but what keeps you going is the thought that you will be back on the pitch again.”
