Robin Van Persie – 15 Premier League Goals in 2011

Robin Van Persie, Arsenal FC

Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie has stepped up for Arsenal by taking a new approach to scoring after the team lost Cesc Fabregas.

Robin Van Persie has scored 15 times in 15 Premier League games saving Arsenal FC after a bad start to the season.

Arsenal hopes for a win against Manchester City on Sunday putting them just six points behind the leaders.

Dutch international superstar Van Persie says he has gotten greedy about scoring his own goals.

“You can tell by the goals I score that some of them come through pure willpower,” said Van Persie. “You can tell by my face that the ball has to go in. I don’t give a damn how.

“A few years ago I used to weigh up the options, think whether there was a chip, or a back-heel for a beautiful finish or whether someone else was free in front of goal. Now I’m more ruthless, though I can still enjoy a good assist.”

Robin van Persie Captains Arsenal FC

Robin Van Persie arrived at Arsenal in May 2004 as a 20-year-old talent, and has blossomed into one of the world’s finest strikers, scoring 33 goals in 32 Premier League appearances in this 2011-12 campaign to date.

Van Persie succeeded Cesc Fabregas as skipper when the Spaniard left for Barcelona in the summer.

“For me Robin is a great leader,” said Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger. “You would not have predicted that – that’s credit to him.

“If you had asked me seven or eight years ago I would not have predicted that he would become captain of Arsenal Football Club. That’s credit to him. His evolution has been outstanding, not only as a human being but as a player too.”

“We are a team who are more mature in our behaviour because the age is higher,” he said. “The players we have brought in like Arteta, Mertesacker, Benayoun, Park and Santos are all between 25 and 30 – they are men.

“Don’t forget Rosicky is captain of the Czech Republic, Arshavin is captain of Russia, Mertesacker captain of Germany sometimes, Ramsey is captain of Wales, Vermaelen, Park as well… who is not a captain?

“There is a good, good spirit there. I am sure we will give absolutely 100 per cent and the game on Sunday will show how far we can go. I’m sure this group will fight to go as far as they can.”

Thierry Henry

Thierry Henry, Arsenal FC Legend

Arsenal manager, Arsène Wenger says legendary Thierry Henry is still good enough to play in the Premier League and discussed the possibility of a brief return for Arsenal’s greatest striker.

Henry recently cried at the unveiling of his statue last week.

Asked whether Henry, 34, could join Arsenal, Wenger said: “I haven’t even investigated that. I cannot tell you even if there is a chance because I haven’t even made any approach, not to him nor his club. I do not always master all my thoughts so it has to come through my brain at some stage but I haven’t been concrete on the case.”

Arsenal needs a striker to support Robin van Persie – and could possibly use Henry as a fall-back option until he signs the right player.

“You want to speak of Thierry Henry and I can understand that but at the moment he just practises with us.”

Arsenal Update

Arsenal Update

Arsenal is currently sitting in sixth in the Premier League.

And Arsene Wenger is currently sitting on £30 million in the bank for January transfers.

Robin Van Persie is the top goal scorer in the Premier League.

Arsenal’s over reliance on star man and captain Van Persie would lead one to think Wenger may try to get another superstar to bring them up to the top four.

Koln’s German forward Lukas Podolski reportedly is high on the list and Lille striker Moussa Sow and Chelsea’s Salomon Kalou remain targets.

The Gunners have returned to top form, and with a few changes could again become a top four side.

Wenger rarely changes his squad in January.
