With the Spurs Derby or London Derby clash this weekend between FC Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur – both clubs have issued a joint statement warning supporters that antisocial behavior will not be tolerated. Tottenham warned fans that offensive banners will be confiscated upon entry to Emiates Stadium.

Fans traditionally get overzealous at the annual meeting between the arch rivals. Last year some Arsenal fans directed abuse at Emmanuel Adebayor, and a section of the Spurs fans sang offensive songs at Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger.

“Both clubs are actively encouraging all fans to focus on getting behind their team and enjoying what promises to be a great match on Saturday,” a statement published on the Arsenal and Spurs websites read. “A north London derby is always a special occasion and we hope Saturday’s match will be remembered for both the action on the pitch, as well as the positive support for both teams off it.”

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas intends for Tottenham to finish above Arsenal on the Premier League table for the first time since 1994-95. Since then, Arsenal has won seven major trophies and played in a Champions League final.

“We have to defeat Arsenal,” said Villas-Boas. “It is possible to bridge the gap. We are looking at trying to shorten the gap and not letting it grow. To play for fourth spot is difficult bearing in mind the competition you have to overcome. It’s possible to bridge it.

“Arsenal has won trophies in recent times and they have qualified for the Champions League more often. That is where we want to be in the future. We’re getting nearer.”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted Tottenham had closed the gap between the teams in recent years.

“For some time, we were winning championships and Tottenham were not in the top four at all, so of course they have got closer in recent years, but fortunately we managed always to get above,” said Wenger. “Tottenham have a good side every year and they are a team who are now fighting with us.”

“Every London derby is important. We dropped some points recently and we want to come back in a more consistent way of results. That is why it is a good opportunity to do that tomorrow,” Wenger continued.

Arsenal is one of the most popular football clubs in the world. And it is owned by some of the richest people in the world.

Billionaire owner Alisher Burkhanovich is a Soviet-born Russian business magnate. According to the 2011 edition of Forbes magazine, the oligarch is one of Russia’s richest men, with a fortune estimated at $18.1 billion, and the world’s 28th richest person. Usmanov’s Red and White Securities has been buying shares in Arsenal and now has a 29.28% stake worth £235m. He says of his interest in the Gunners: “My love for Arsenal is like that of a man for a woman. It is not something you can sell.”

Usmanov has laid the blame for Arsenal’s failure to secure any silverware in the last six seasons squarely at the door of the club’s board.

Stan Kroenke, the billionaire owner of the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, and Colorado Rapids, has joined the board at Arsenal.

Russian billionaire, Alisher Usmanov, is gunning to take over Arsenal. In his corner is former Arsenal Chairman David Dein, who is heading up Usmanov’s company Red and White Holdings. Currently Usmanov owns 25% of Arsenal’s shares, but appears to be making a move for a hostile takeover.

Kroenke owns a 12.5 % stake in the company.
