Arsenal Move Up to 3rd in Premier League

Arsenal Move Up to 3rd in Premier League

The crisis at Arsenal seems to be over, after their third win in a row.

England midfielder, Jack Wilshire signed a new five-year contract with Arsenal.

Wilshire is proud of the way The Gunners adjusted to tough circumstances in their 1-0 defeat of Wigan as Arsenal went third in the Premier League.

“We got the points and we showed a different side to our game,” said Wilshere. “It’s a tough place to come to, Wigan, and they play a strange formation compared to other teams in England. They caused us some problems but we dealt well with it.”It was a big adjustment with the pitch and the conditions but we showed great character.

“We know we can come to places like this and dig out results and we have to keep doing that. All the big teams, when they come here, maybe they don’t play very well, but they seem to get results and we’ve done that.”

Wilshere joined four other young players in signing new five-year contracts with Arsenal.

“It was nice to sign the new contract and I’m thankful for all the support the club have given me,” he continued.

“This is a great club, everyone can see that, and for me it’s like home. My friends and family are down the road, I’ve grown up at this club so I really feel like part of the family.

“I think I’ve shown commitment to the club and they’ve shown it to me so I think we have a good thing going on.”

Arsenal Update – Jack Wilshire

Arsenal Update – Jack Wilshire

Young Arsenal star Jack Wilshere is set to sign a new £20m five-year contract – a new £80,000 deal, with staggered pay rises.

The popular England international is ready to commit his long-term future to the club that gave him his Premier League start.

The 20-year-old Wilshire is sure that Gunners’ youngsters are good enough to end Arsenal’s seven-and-a-half-year wait for a major trophy.

Reportedly Wilshire is England’s most promising young talent.

Wilshere hopes to captain the side one day.

Wenger will surely hope other Arsenal stars including Theo Wallcott also commit their futures to the club – teenage midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is expected to continue with the Gunners.

“I’m talking to the club and I will probably be committing my future to them in the next couple of weeks. I know the team are going through a bad spell at the moment but that’s like any team. That’s not a problem for me nor is it a problem if the fans are booing us. We have to change that ourselves,” said Wilshire.

Theo Walcott has been locked in talks for most of the season, but no agreement has yet been forthcoming – although his contract expires next summer.

Robin Van Persie, Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas have all left the club in recent seasons.

Arsene Wenger’s Future With Arsenal

Arsene Wenger, Manager Arsenal
.
Arsene Wenger’s Future With Arsenal
.
Arsenal who have not won a trophy since the 2005 FA Cup, were stunned by their loss to League Two Bradford City in the Capital One Cup this month.

Arsenal are 15 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United.

Arsene Wenger’s side won at Reading on Monday however they are in the last 16 of the Champions League for a 13th consecutive season, but ex-Gunners defender Sol Campbell feels it is vital they bolster their squad in January.

“I think they should find some money somewhere and get some top players in and just go for it,” said Campbell.

“They have some top players, but I just don’t think there’s enough. Jack Wilshere epitomises what Arsenal are all about. He’s got drive, a great football head, he wants to win. Arsenal need a few more like that.”

The money available to Wenger for signings and salaries was restricted by Arsenal’s move from Highbury to Emirates Stadium in 2006.

Arsenal will be boosted by a new £150m sponsorship deal with Emirates Airline.

“Arsenal are not in a situation where they are going to go out of business,” Campbell explained. “They can actually hedge their bets and go for it.

“It’s about gambling at the right time and I think now it’s a critical moment to gamble, to buy players, to invest in them.

“We can’t keep on losing top players because you’re never going to build anything. If top players are going to invest in you, you’ve got to invest in them. They won’t take half [the money] to come to Arsenal. Arsenal are not at that level.

“They’ve got a wage structure they don’t want to break. I think that’s a big problem with attracting the real top players.”

Campbell believes Wenger should remain in charge dispite intense criticism.

“He is the right man for the job, but he has to realise that the playing landscape has changed and the market has changed,” he added.

“You’ve got to sometimes take a risk. Taking a punt on a player 10 years ago for £500,000 might now be £7m. You can’t always get these £500,000 players, turn them into great players and sell them for £20m.

“Seven years plus without a trophy for Arsenal is too long. Arsene would be the first to say that. Why not wait until January and just go for it?”

FC Arsenal Update – Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger, Arsenal

Arsenal Update

Reportedly, Alisher Usmanov, who owns a 29 per cent stake in FC Arsenal football club, stated that Thierry Henry should be given a “more important role” at the club rather than just returning next month on a short-term loan from the New York Red Bulls.

Honorary vice-president Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith sold her 15.9 per cent stake in Arsenal to majority shareholder Stan Kroenke, but clearly she isn’t impressed with the American millionaire’s approach to running the club.

“If making money was motivating factor, surely better ways,” blasted her Ladyship on Twitter. “Football is a business of passion and SK (Stan Kroenke) has no passion for AFC.”

Kroenke, who has a 62.8 per cent stake in Arsenal following his acquisition of Bracewell-Smith’s shares in April 2011 “is still trying to launch a takeover of the club” and he has apparently invited Henry and his agent, Darren Dein, son of former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein, to Moscow for talks.

“I don’t have any powers in terms of decisions at the club but there are a few players with whom I am in contact,” Usmanov admitted to the Mirror. “Thierry should be involved at the club but not as a player. He has another role to play, a more important role.”

“The presence of a champion can radically change the soul of a team,” said Usmanov.

Rumor has it that Pep Guardiola was “keen” to take over the helm at Arsenal. And the Mirror claims Arsene Wenger could be on his way to Real Madrid at the end of the season.

The paper claims the Frenchman is on the club’s shortlist to replace Jose Mourinho, who is expected to quit in May.

Real president Florentino Perez is said to be a “long-standing admirer” of Wenger.

Premier League: Reading 2-5 Arsenal

Reading 2-5 Arsenal

A treble effort today by Santi Cazorla moves Gunners within two points of fourth place in the England Premier League.

Arsenal soundly defeated Reading 5-2 at Madejski Stadium.

A Santi Cazorla hat trick and a Lukas Podolski strike put Arsene Wenger’s team four goals clear at the hour mark.

Reading managed to earn two goals to make it 4-2 after 71 minutes through Adam Le Fondre and Jimmy Kebe strikes.

Then Theo Walcott scored the seventh goal of the game and his 11th of the current season after 80 minutes.

Arsenal jumped over Norwich City, West Brom and Everton to climb into fifth position in the Premier League.

Reading remains bottom of the Premier League on nine points, six adrift of 17th-placed Southamptont.

Cazorla became only the third Spaniard, after Fernando Torres and Jordi Gomez, to score a Premier League hat trick.
