Champions League : Besiktas 0 – 0 FC Arsenal

England Premiership titan club, FC Arsenal saw Champions League qualifying action today at Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Turkey when they faced Besiktas resulting in a goal-less draw in the first leg of a two leg playoff with a $33 million prize at stake.

In the first half, both Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud had decent shots on goal for the Gunners and Demba Ba shot wide for Besiktas.

In the second half Olcay Sahan wasted Besiktas’ best chance, while Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey was given a second yellow card, leaving Arsenal with only 10 men for the last 10 minutes of the game.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s effort hit the post with only 5 minutes left to play.

The clubs meet in the second leg of the tie at Emirates Stadium on August 27 to battle for a victory and a spot in their 15th successive Champions League group stage competition.

Arsenal’s veteran manager Arsene Wenger reported the match was both difficult and frenetic. Wenger retorted that Aaron Ramsey’s two yellow cards and sending off were unbelievable. As a result Ramsay is ruled out of the second leg match.

Arsenal next face Turkish side Besiktas on August 27th at Emirates Stadium in Leg 2 of their Champions League playoffs tie.
