Arsenal Jan Signings: Walcott, Wilshire, Gibbs, Jenkinson, Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain

Arsenal FC Update

The January transfer window is still open and English Premier League teams are adding powerful footballers to their squads.

The Gunners reportedly have resigned fans’ favorite forward Theo Walcott.

Walcott signed a £90,000-a-week deal through 2016. The deal will end up keeping Walcott on for three-and-a-half years with a £3 million signing-on bonus.

Walcott’s attributes include his speed, balance and ability to move around the pitch. To date, Walcott has netted 56 goals and 45 assists in 244 total appearances with the team.

“What’s important now is for the team to realize its potential and win trophies,” said Walcott.

Walcott, along with Jack Wilshire, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, all signed five year extensions last month.

“I have made it clear from the start that I wanted to stay at Arsenal so I am pleased we have agreed a deal that everyone is happy with.
“Thanks to everyone for their continued support, especially the manager, everyone at the club and most importantly the fans,” said Walcott, Arsenal’s top scorer.

Premier League: Reading 2-5 Arsenal

Reading 2-5 Arsenal

A treble effort today by Santi Cazorla moves Gunners within two points of fourth place in the England Premier League.

Arsenal soundly defeated Reading 5-2 at Madejski Stadium.

A Santi Cazorla hat trick and a Lukas Podolski strike put Arsene Wenger’s team four goals clear at the hour mark.

Reading managed to earn two goals to make it 4-2 after 71 minutes through Adam Le Fondre and Jimmy Kebe strikes.

Then Theo Walcott scored the seventh goal of the game and his 11th of the current season after 80 minutes.

Arsenal jumped over Norwich City, West Brom and Everton to climb into fifth position in the Premier League.

Reading remains bottom of the Premier League on nine points, six adrift of 17th-placed Southamptont.

Cazorla became only the third Spaniard, after Fernando Torres and Jordi Gomez, to score a Premier League hat trick.

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur – London Derby Tickets

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur – Spurs Derby

Tottenham Hotspur clash with Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Saturday with a one-point advantage over Arsenal going into the “London Derby” one of the most anticipated fixtures this season. Great tickets are still available

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur Tickets, English Premiership, 17 Nov 2012 12:45, Emirates Stadium, London

With the Spurs Derby or London Derby clash this weekend between FC Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur – both clubs have issued a joint statement warning supporters that antisocial behavior will not be tolerated. Tottenham warned fans that offensive banners will be confiscated upon entry to Emiates Stadium.

Fans traditionally get overzealous at the annual meeting between the arch rivals. Last year some Arsenal fans directed abuse at Emmanuel Adebayor, and a section of the Spurs fans sang offensive songs at Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger.

“Both clubs are actively encouraging all fans to focus on getting behind their team and enjoying what promises to be a great match on Saturday,” a statement published on the Arsenal and Spurs websites read. “A north London derby is always a special occasion and we hope Saturday’s match will be remembered for both the action on the pitch, as well as the positive support for both teams off it.”

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas intends for Tottenham to finish above Arsenal on the Premier League table for the first time since 1994-95. Since then, Arsenal has won seven major trophies and played in a Champions League final.

“We have to defeat Arsenal,” said Villas-Boas. “It is possible to bridge the gap. We are looking at trying to shorten the gap and not letting it grow. To play for fourth spot is difficult bearing in mind the competition you have to overcome. It’s possible to bridge it.

“Arsenal has won trophies in recent times and they have qualified for the Champions League more often. That is where we want to be in the future. We’re getting nearer.”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted Tottenham had closed the gap between the teams in recent years.

“For some time, we were winning championships and Tottenham were not in the top four at all, so of course they have got closer in recent years, but fortunately we managed always to get above,” said Wenger. “Tottenham have a good side every year and they are a team who are now fighting with us.”

“Every London derby is important. We dropped some points recently and we want to come back in a more consistent way of results. That is why it is a good opportunity to do that tomorrow,” Wenger continued.

Arsene Wenger Proud of Arsenal’s 7-5 Defeat of Reading

Arsene Wenger, Arsenal Manager

Arsene Wenger Proud of Arsenal’s 7-5 Comeback v Reading

Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger talked about The Gunner’s stunning 7-5 victory today against Reading in their fourth round Capital One Cup clash.

“We went from disaster to, I must say at least at some stage, pride – because we at least came back in the second half with a decent performance,” remarked Wenger.

“We had just hope, but it didn’t look like we would go through.

“At least in the second half, we got our disastrous first half out of the system. Then, once it was 4-4, I think it looked like we would be the winner of the game.

“Reading had given a lot, and [were] mentally of course down and in extra time, the maximum they could have got was a penalty shoot out.

“We looked quite comfortable in the second half.

“They [Reading] had a fantastic first half. I know what it is to be pulled back when you’re 4-0 up.

“It happened to me as well.

“They should take credit from that performance and not be too disappointed.

Wenger was asked if he believed his club could come back from 4-1.

“Yes. At 4-1, I thought yes.

“In the second half we played 4-2-4, basically 4-1-5 because Eisfeld is an offensive midfielder. We created many chances and from then on, I always had hope we could come back.

“We had some free-kicks around the box [but] we couldn’t score. With 15 minutes to go, I thought that’s the moment to score the 4-3.

“We didn’t. Seven minutes to go, we had a great chance [to score]. We didn’t [take it] so I thought it will be short now.

“It’s strange to explain. At 4-0, you think you have won the game. At 4-1 you still think you have won the game. At 4-2, you suddenly realise that it’s not over – and then the panic kicks in and no matter how good a player you are, that goes through the team.

“I didn’t feel great. I just thought ‘what can I do about that?’ I started to think about my half-time speech. It was not difficult to find an inspiration at half time, because there was enough there to talk about.

Around 4,000 Arsenal fans traveled to watch the match live.

“Overall, I just felt sorry for our fans because at 2-0, they stayed behind the team. At 3-0, they stayed behind the team. At 4-0, they stayed behind the team. I would like to give them credit tonight.

“The big part of the fans stayed behind the team and I’m happy we paid them back in the second half.

Capital One Cup: Arsene Wenger Proud of Arsenal

Theo Walcott, Arsenal

Arsene Wenger Proud of Arsenal

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, was rightly proud of his men as they defeated Coventry 6-1 in the third round of the Capital One Cup.

“I think we did our job. In the first half we were tested, defensively mainly. In the second half our offensive potential made the difference when they tired a little bit. From then on of course you had Arshavin, Walcott, Chamberlain and Giroud, who were always a threat. That made the difference, the difference of quality made a big impact on the result in the end,” remarked Wenger.

“But you have to respect Coventry because they gave a lot, they never gave up and they did fight for every single ball from the first to the last minute. When they got tired it became easier for us. It was a classical tie when you need to be serious, and we were serious.”

Wenger commented on Theo Walcott’s performance.

“He is a great finisher now, Walcott, in front of goal he is absolutely amazing,” said Wenger about Walcott’s two goals.

“We all want him to stay. I always said exactly the same. I always said let’s hope that we can sign up and extend his contract. I speak to Theo of course. To his agents? We are always in touch with them and you have to give us some time to sort that out.”

Arsenal 0-0 Stoke City – Arsenal Tickets

Olivier Giroud, Arsenal FC

Stoke City 0-0 Arsenal FC

Arsenal has begun the Premier League season with two scoreless matches.

“They’re not spontaneous enough in some situations,” Wenger said. “I’m very positive about my team. People will say: ‘You did not score in two games’ and I cannot deny that. We played against two teams who as a unit defend very well, Sunderland and Stoke, and overall I believe we can be a good surprise in this championship.”

With the loss of Robin Van Persie and addition of new striker Olivier Giroud – Arsenal couldn’t find the net Sunday against Stoke City ending in a goaless clash.
“Offensively we still have some work to do because we missed a bit of accuracy in the final third in our movement and in our passing,” Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said.

“We are used to finding each other in the final third and there’s something missing but I still think we should have won the game 1-0. [It is] an understanding because you have Cazorla and Podolski who one month ago, they didn’t know each other, so that will come. We have some work to do on the training ground but I believe we have the potential but you can see as well that something is missing.”

Arsenal and Wenger were booed by the Stoke fans.

“You have to give credit to Stoke,” Wenger said. “They defended well and have experience at the back and are a very strong team defensively. As long as we didn’t score an opener they were happy with the point and you could see that. Is it a point gained or two dropped? I would say it is two dropped on the day but I would say it is a good point as it is difficult for everybody to take a point at Stoke.”

Wenger and van Persie Key to Arsenal Comeback

Robin Van Persie, Arsenal FC

Wenger and van Persie Key to Arsenal 2012 Success!

Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger and superstar striker Robin Van Persie have been key in The Gunner’s rise up to the top tier of the Premiership this season. Wenger has aspirations to finish in the top four in the Premier League this campaign.

Robin Van Persie has not yet agreed to a contract extension at Arsenal. His current contract runs out in the summer of 2013.

City’s boss, Roberto Mancini has hailed Van Perise as ‘one of the best strikers in Europe’.

Arsenal FC boss, Arsene Wenger is not concerned about Manchester City’s public declaration that they intend to bring Van Persie on board.

‘If you are to have one quality it is not to be unsettled because what is said of you by other clubs is part of the job,’ said Wenger.

‘What is important is how much you want to win the next game and all the rest is basically not important.’

‘Robin is the leader of our club and I would just like to specify that he is not at the end of his contract.

‘He is under contract until 2013. So you do your job, focus on your job which he does very well and enjoy your games.’

Wenger has hope for England midfielder Jack Wilshere, who has been out all season due to an ankle problem.

‘The progress in training is very good but what you do not want is to have any setbacks,’ Wenger said.

‘The setback could be a bad scan, but the clinical signs are all very good when you look at his ankle, it is not inflamed and it is normal progress now.

‘But we are a bit over cautious with him now because of the setbacks we had before.’

Wenger was charged with improper conduct by UEFA after confronting referee Damir Skomina following Arsenal’s 3-0 win over AC Milan.

Arsenal recently defeated Tottenham and at Liverpool.

‘We want to finish as high as we can,’ Wenger said.

‘It will be difficult because we know that we face a massive battle there with Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle and maybe Liverpool.

‘We have created the momentum but we know until the end of the season that every game will be a massive one for us.

‘What is at stake is to be in the top four, if possible in the top three, but it will be difficult for everybody.’
