England Premier League : Arsenal v Reading

Jack Wilshere has missed Arsenal’s last two games due to a minor ankle injury. Twenty-one year old Wilshere will not be available for Saturday’s game against Reading as a precaution.

Even though the injury is not to the same leg that kept Wilshere out of action for almost a year and a half, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that Wilshere will not be rushed back into action.

“We will rest him when it is needed,” Wenger said. “He has regular scans and as soon as we have an alert we will respect it no matter what is at stake.

“He had a difficult moment of course when you told him because he didn’t feel any special pain. But he knows he has to take care of his future. Because he is a very young player, I think he accepts it.”

Wilshere may be selected for England’s end-of-season friendlies against Republic of Ireland and Brazil.

“If he is selected, he will go,” said Wenger. “It depends what kind of shape he will be in.

“It is a job where you need to play and where you have a physical gamble but he doesn’t need any special treatment. You just have to be cautious with the inflammations of his ankle sometimes but if he has no problem, why not?”

Arsenal Win Moving Into FA Cup Fifth Round – Arsenal 3-2 Brighton

Arsenal Win Moving Into FA Cup Fifth Round – Arsenal 3-2 Brighton

Arsenal defeated Brighton, moving into the fifth round after a classic FA Cup battle at Amex Stadium.

Frenchman Olivier Giroud’s first goal was from a free kick at 16 minutes during the FA Cup Budweiser Fourth Round match between Brighton & Hove Albion and FC Arsenal at stunning Amex Stadium on January 26, 2013 in Brighton, England.

Gunners’ new signing, Giroud, impressed as he continued his scoring streak with a brace on Saturday, scoring a goal in each half of Arsenal’s victory 3-2 victory over Brighton.

Gus Poyet’s side equalized at 30 minuted when Ashley Barnes nodded home making the score 1-1. Then Seagulls scored again, when Brazilian Andre Santos found the net making the score 2-1 in favor of Brighton going into the half.

After the break, Giroud scored again on 56 minutes with the score 2-2.

Wenger then sent on Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs pushing for the win. And with five minutes left to play, the Frenchman’s decision reaped rewards, when Walcott volleyed home from the edge of the box five minutes from time to secure all three points for Arsenal.

Arsenal Jan Signings: Walcott, Wilshire, Gibbs, Jenkinson, Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain

Arsenal FC Update

The January transfer window is still open and English Premier League teams are adding powerful footballers to their squads.

The Gunners reportedly have resigned fans’ favorite forward Theo Walcott.

Walcott signed a £90,000-a-week deal through 2016. The deal will end up keeping Walcott on for three-and-a-half years with a £3 million signing-on bonus.

Walcott’s attributes include his speed, balance and ability to move around the pitch. To date, Walcott has netted 56 goals and 45 assists in 244 total appearances with the team.

“What’s important now is for the team to realize its potential and win trophies,” said Walcott.

Walcott, along with Jack Wilshire, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, all signed five year extensions last month.

“I have made it clear from the start that I wanted to stay at Arsenal so I am pleased we have agreed a deal that everyone is happy with.
“Thanks to everyone for their continued support, especially the manager, everyone at the club and most importantly the fans,” said Walcott, Arsenal’s top scorer.

Premier League: Reading 2-5 Arsenal

Reading 2-5 Arsenal

A treble effort today by Santi Cazorla moves Gunners within two points of fourth place in the England Premier League.

Arsenal soundly defeated Reading 5-2 at Madejski Stadium.

A Santi Cazorla hat trick and a Lukas Podolski strike put Arsene Wenger’s team four goals clear at the hour mark.

Reading managed to earn two goals to make it 4-2 after 71 minutes through Adam Le Fondre and Jimmy Kebe strikes.

Then Theo Walcott scored the seventh goal of the game and his 11th of the current season after 80 minutes.

Arsenal jumped over Norwich City, West Brom and Everton to climb into fifth position in the Premier League.

Reading remains bottom of the Premier League on nine points, six adrift of 17th-placed Southamptont.

Cazorla became only the third Spaniard, after Fernando Torres and Jordi Gomez, to score a Premier League hat trick.

Capital One Cup: Arsene Wenger Proud of Arsenal

Theo Walcott, Arsenal

Arsene Wenger Proud of Arsenal

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, was rightly proud of his men as they defeated Coventry 6-1 in the third round of the Capital One Cup.

“I think we did our job. In the first half we were tested, defensively mainly. In the second half our offensive potential made the difference when they tired a little bit. From then on of course you had Arshavin, Walcott, Chamberlain and Giroud, who were always a threat. That made the difference, the difference of quality made a big impact on the result in the end,” remarked Wenger.

“But you have to respect Coventry because they gave a lot, they never gave up and they did fight for every single ball from the first to the last minute. When they got tired it became easier for us. It was a classical tie when you need to be serious, and we were serious.”

Wenger commented on Theo Walcott’s performance.

“He is a great finisher now, Walcott, in front of goal he is absolutely amazing,” said Wenger about Walcott’s two goals.

“We all want him to stay. I always said exactly the same. I always said let’s hope that we can sign up and extend his contract. I speak to Theo of course. To his agents? We are always in touch with them and you have to give us some time to sort that out.”

Arsenal 0-0 Stoke City – Arsenal Tickets

Olivier Giroud, Arsenal FC

Stoke City 0-0 Arsenal FC

Arsenal has begun the Premier League season with two scoreless matches.

“They’re not spontaneous enough in some situations,” Wenger said. “I’m very positive about my team. People will say: ‘You did not score in two games’ and I cannot deny that. We played against two teams who as a unit defend very well, Sunderland and Stoke, and overall I believe we can be a good surprise in this championship.”

With the loss of Robin Van Persie and addition of new striker Olivier Giroud – Arsenal couldn’t find the net Sunday against Stoke City ending in a goaless clash.
“Offensively we still have some work to do because we missed a bit of accuracy in the final third in our movement and in our passing,” Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said.

“We are used to finding each other in the final third and there’s something missing but I still think we should have won the game 1-0. [It is] an understanding because you have Cazorla and Podolski who one month ago, they didn’t know each other, so that will come. We have some work to do on the training ground but I believe we have the potential but you can see as well that something is missing.”

Arsenal and Wenger were booed by the Stoke fans.

“You have to give credit to Stoke,” Wenger said. “They defended well and have experience at the back and are a very strong team defensively. As long as we didn’t score an opener they were happy with the point and you could see that. Is it a point gained or two dropped? I would say it is two dropped on the day but I would say it is a good point as it is difficult for everybody to take a point at Stoke.”

Arsenal Has High Hopes For Champions League Placement

Arsene Wenger, Arsenal FC Manager

Arsenal Battle For Champions League Placement in 2012-13

The battle for Champions League placement for next season is getting interesting.

Man Utd and Man City have secured the top two spots. Arsenal intend to secure third place to secure automatic qualification.

Arsenal are currently in third place in the Premiership table. Finishing in third or fourth place would normally secure a place in next season’s Champion League placement.

“If we finish third, you want Chelsea to win the Champions League because it’s great for the Premier League that an English club wins,” said Arsene Wenger, Arsenal boss.

“If you are in the fourth position it would be masochistic to wish that you were out of the Champions League. You cannot ask the impossible. That is why maybe the rule is a little bit malicious. I think everyone in England wants an English team to win the Champions League but the team who is fourth will certainly wish they had a chance to play in the Champions League. But let’s not forget that the team that is fourth can be Chelsea. You don’t know yet.”

However if Chelsea FC win the Champions League title this season and finish in fifth place or lower, they would bump the club who finishes in fourth. If Chelsea loose the Champions League Final against hosts Bayern Munich in May and fail to finish in the top four, then they would usurp one of their rivals (Newcastle United, Arsenal, or Tottenham Hotspur) to enter the group stages.

Arsene Wenger feels the rule is ‘not completely fair’, he also believes it would be ‘illogical’ for the holders not to be able to defend the title.

‘It is the rule that everybody knows before the season starts, nobody complained and if Chelsea win then England will have four clubs represented in the Champions League. We have to accept it,’ Wenger said.

‘But the surprise of the season is neither Chelsea, who are not even in the Champions League places at the moment which is very unusual, nor Bayern, are top of their leagues. That shows you how unpredictable the Champions League is.’

Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov has spoken again of a desire to increase his stake in Arsenal’s parent company up from 30%, perhaps to have a seat on the board. Arsenal’s majority shareholder is Stan Kroenke, who completed a takeover last year.

‘I always think it is important in a big club that everybody does his job. I have zero shares so I cannot sell him anything. For the rest I don’t want to be involved in that,’ said Wenger.

‘That is a decision which has to be made by the board, who is represented there.

‘Why not? As long as we have the freedom to decide on the sporting side, I have not to decide what is going on with the board.’

Wenger shared some thought on how he feels about being booed and jeered on the pitch.

“I’ve had enough experience to cope with that. It doesn’t bother me too much. I don’t listen to what people chant,” said Wenger.

“I think one day football will have to tackle that. It’s easy to sit in the stand and insult people. It’s the easiest sport in the world.

“I focus on what I love in my job, which is football and the way my players behave on the pitch. I’m not responsible for the way people behave in the stands.

“If you want to stop that, it’s easy to stop. You can isolate every single face.

“I think sometimes when I go out on the pitch at the end of the game, and people are angry or hateful, I would like a little picture to send home for them to show their son or daughter, and then come back next week and see if they will do it again, see if they are proud of you.”
