Wenger and van Persie Key to Arsenal Comeback

Robin Van Persie, Arsenal FC

Wenger and van Persie Key to Arsenal 2012 Success!

Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger and superstar striker Robin Van Persie have been key in The Gunner’s rise up to the top tier of the Premiership this season. Wenger has aspirations to finish in the top four in the Premier League this campaign.

Robin Van Persie has not yet agreed to a contract extension at Arsenal. His current contract runs out in the summer of 2013.

City’s boss, Roberto Mancini has hailed Van Perise as ‘one of the best strikers in Europe’.

Arsenal FC boss, Arsene Wenger is not concerned about Manchester City’s public declaration that they intend to bring Van Persie on board.

‘If you are to have one quality it is not to be unsettled because what is said of you by other clubs is part of the job,’ said Wenger.

‘What is important is how much you want to win the next game and all the rest is basically not important.’

‘Robin is the leader of our club and I would just like to specify that he is not at the end of his contract.

‘He is under contract until 2013. So you do your job, focus on your job which he does very well and enjoy your games.’

Wenger has hope for England midfielder Jack Wilshere, who has been out all season due to an ankle problem.

‘The progress in training is very good but what you do not want is to have any setbacks,’ Wenger said.

‘The setback could be a bad scan, but the clinical signs are all very good when you look at his ankle, it is not inflamed and it is normal progress now.

‘But we are a bit over cautious with him now because of the setbacks we had before.’

Wenger was charged with improper conduct by UEFA after confronting referee Damir Skomina following Arsenal’s 3-0 win over AC Milan.

Arsenal recently defeated Tottenham and at Liverpool.

‘We want to finish as high as we can,’ Wenger said.

‘It will be difficult because we know that we face a massive battle there with Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle and maybe Liverpool.

‘We have created the momentum but we know until the end of the season that every game will be a massive one for us.

‘What is at stake is to be in the top four, if possible in the top three, but it will be difficult for everybody.’

Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere Suffers Setback

Arsene Wenger, Arsenal FC Manager

Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere Suffers Setback

Arsène Wenger, says midfielder Jack Wilshere is out of contention for the international friendly against Holland next month.

“We are now at the end of January,” said Wenger. “He has not played since the summer so it is impossible. From day one, to practise again to be match fit I would say takes six weeks.” Though the Arsenal manager did not yet rule Wilshere out of the European Championship finals in June, he admitted the continuing absence of the player was as damaging to his club’s fortunes as to his country’s.

“It is a massive disappointment,” he said. “If you had told me that Jack would not have played one game by February I would have said: that’s impossible. I like to have a left-footed player in midfield. We miss that little burst from Jack.” As for the player himself, Wenger suggested: “How do you say in English? He’s gutted.”

Wilshere used Twitter to describe his frustration, saying: “I can’t tell you how long I have been set back because I don’t know! I am very annoyed but will stay strong.”

Wilshere has not played for Arsenal this season. He reported pain in his right ankle when running during his return on Tuesday and was immediately sent to see a specialist. Further tests were carried out yesterday, and club’s medical staff fears a recurrence of the stress fracture he suffered when on England duty last June.

Arsenal Update: Arsenal 2-1 Norwich

Arsenal 2-1 Norwich

Robin Van Persie scoring his 30th and 31st goals of 2011 in Arsenal’s recent clash with Norwich.

After Arsenal’s 2-1 win at Norwich, Arsenal’s fifth victory in a row, boss Arsene Wenger said he had full confidence that he will at least see out the two years left of his contract.

‘I am completely committed to the club and I will show you that at the end of the season,’ said the 62-year-old, who has been at the club for 15 years

‘I’m very happy with the players we bought. There is a fantastic spirit in the side and a great attitude. It’s a pleasure to work with the players. I feel we have come back in a stronger position and the team is growing from game to game.’

Wenger hopes to qualify for the Champions League and do well in this season’s other competitions.

‘We have to show that we can go very far, that’s what we don’t know, but we have the desire to.’ he added. ‘We have some way to go to show that this is the right way. That’s why what I wanted to say was we will see at the end of the season how far we can go. I’m very positive but how much do we want to be really successful?

‘That’s what we have to show in the coming months. But I’m positive because I feel the team wants it. For us what is important is we are back in a stronger position, let’s continue to develop because we need to to come back to the top.’
