England Premier League : Arsenal v Reading

Jack Wilshere has missed Arsenal’s last two games due to a minor ankle injury. Twenty-one year old Wilshere will not be available for Saturday’s game against Reading as a precaution.

Even though the injury is not to the same leg that kept Wilshere out of action for almost a year and a half, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that Wilshere will not be rushed back into action.

“We will rest him when it is needed,” Wenger said. “He has regular scans and as soon as we have an alert we will respect it no matter what is at stake.

“He had a difficult moment of course when you told him because he didn’t feel any special pain. But he knows he has to take care of his future. Because he is a very young player, I think he accepts it.”

Wilshere may be selected for England’s end-of-season friendlies against Republic of Ireland and Brazil.

“If he is selected, he will go,” said Wenger. “It depends what kind of shape he will be in.

“It is a job where you need to play and where you have a physical gamble but he doesn’t need any special treatment. You just have to be cautious with the inflammations of his ankle sometimes but if he has no problem, why not?”

Arsenal will wear red shirts with white sleeves, white shorts and white socks as they take the field at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, March 30 for their Premier League clash with Reading as they fight to move into the top four with only eight matches left in the season.

Arsenal are in fifth place in the England Premier League with 50 points. Man United are in 1st with 74 points, Man City are in 2nd with 59, Chelsea was in 3rd with 55 points, and Spurs are in 4th.

Reading is expected to put up a major fight to win the match.

Newly hired Reading manager Nigel Adkins stated that Reading will “scrap” for the wins they need to ensure Premier League survival – Reading must “dare to dream”. The former Southampton boss Adkins was appointed on Tuesday and takes charge of a club seven points.

“We’ve got to believe we can do it,” said Adkins. “We will scrap. It’s about the here and now. Do we dare to dream we can win the games we need to stay up? We have to.”

“It’s a good club. We’re in the Premier League and we want to stay there. I am excited.”
